A few basic questions… What kind of jobs?

Counselors, lifeguards, office/administrative staff, maintenance assistants, horse and stable staff, kitchen staff, crafts and day camp directors.

What is the length of employment?

There is some variation from camp to camp, but most positions begin the second or third week of May and conclude the first or second week in August. Generally, there are nine to ten weeks of employment, and occasionally, more time is available. Length of employment is negotiable with Camp Director.

Where will I live?

Staff live right here on the site. Housing is provided. For more information talk with the Camp Director.

How much do the positions pay?

Seasonal employees at Rockfish are paid a weekly salary in addition to room and board. Entertainment or weekends (swimming, canoeing, relaxing on the beach) are included. This design makes saving money easy! Many employees are able to save almost all of their earnings from the summer! Salaries begin $170.00 per week. There are also benefits that aren't measured in dollars and cents...but smile, hugs and laughter.

Why should I?

Each person will certainly have to answer this question for him/herself. There are several factors to consider:

• Rockfish Camp & Retreat Center offers work in a positive environment which promotes good times and the joy of life with friends within a community of Christian faith.

• There are challenges and responsibilities unmatched by any other job placement available for young adults. These are great career and character builders.

• There is an opportunity to gain college credit for your work. Ask your department head or instructor about this possibility.

• On the job experience (something every job seeker needs) is especially valuable for further career goals in education, psychology, counseling, recreation, social work, health specialist, naturalist and man- agement. In fact, the skills and traits developed in these jobs are transferable to any career field that requires working with people, planning and imple- mentation, responsibility and judgement develop- ment. These are traits that are not learned, but are developed by use. Camping positions provide op- portunities to use and develop your full self.

• Camping ministry allows you to share and grow in your faith. There is opportunity to struggle with life values for yourself and for campers you may be working with. Many staff members find that their personal life is never more in order than when working in camping ministry.

• Community is a key word at camp. Living closely, sharing work and experiencing special moments and adventures are the overwhelming reasons why staff members in camp, return season after sea son and why they send their children on down through the years.

• As someone else already said, “Is not just a job…it becomes a special way of life.”

Other comments from staff, campers, and parents:

• Staff •

“I feel I've touched many lives…”

“I had doubts about myself as a Christian, because a year of college had left me spiritually dead—camp saved me all over again!”

“The staff grew together from day one as a strong Christian unit. They cared for each other and prayed for each other, enabling everyone to work together wonderfully!”

• What campers say •

“It is very special that I found God this summer. He has changed my life, and me, so much.”

“If it weren't for you and your camp, I may have never found a place for God in my life.”

• What parents say •

“Thanks for providing such a special time for both of our children.”

“To see your children just as excited and happy when you pick them up as when you leave them is a great feeling.

“The counselors seemed very enthusiastic and seemed to want to do the best for the children.”
